And the British star behind the hit "Rehab" is just one in hundreds of foreign artists who have been denied entry into the country recently. We’ll discuss the art world’s visa problem with Washington Post staff writer Sarah Kaufman and singer-guitarist Raam of the Iranian rock band Hypernova. Composer Ned Rorem and Poet J.D. McClatchy (Soundcheck: Wednesday, 16 April 2008) 

Composer Ned Rorem is best known for his song settings, as well as diaries with barbed observations about prominent musicians. Poet J.D. McClatchy has written eight opera librettos, for such composers as William Schuman and Elliot Goldenthal. Rorem and McClatchy join us in advance of the New York premiere of their opera "Our Town," based on Thornton Wilder's classic American play. The Juilliard Opera Center will stage the opera "Our Town" at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater on Wed. Apr. 23 and Thurs. 24 at 8pm, and Sun. Apr. 27 at 2pm.

According to current federal sentencing guidelines, convictions for the sale of 500 grams of powder cocaine – and only 5 grams of crack cocaine – both result in a 5-year mandatory minimum sentence. Jesselyn McCurdy , legislative counsel for the ACLU, explains why this sentencing disparity is unfair and fails to address the larger problem of the drug trade. Karen Garrison is the mother of 2 sons who are each serving long sentences in federal prison for non-violent crack cocaine offenses.
